{RECIPE} Tiny Fruits Popcorn Balls

image

Yay to Friday! It’s been such a COLD week here in Brooklyn, that tonight our plan is to stay in, cozy up on the couch, and watch a great movie! We’re gonna make some hot chocolate and also whip up some of these DELICIOUS Tiny Fruits popcorn balls! What a great way to jazz up the typical movie snack!

Makes ~10 popcorn balls

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups popcorn
  • 2/3 cup maple syrup
  • ½ cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup Banana Apple Tiny Fruits
  • ½ cup chopped raisins (optional)

Instructions:

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and put popcorn in a large bowl. (Seriously – the largest bowl you have. This is about to get messy.)
  • Bring maple syrup and peanut butter to a boil in a medium-sized saucepan, reduce heat, and let simmer for one minute.
  • Pour syrup mixture over popcorn and mix well. Add Tiny Fruits and chopped raisins.
  • Once popcorn mixture is cool enough to handle, press firmly into 2-3” balls, and place on baking sheet. Let cool completely.
  • Store popcorn balls at room temperature in an airtight container for up to one week.

"Listen Up Kids…" :: The Jason Cohen Edition

We <3 friends of friends. That’s how we met rad dad, Jason. He’s got a cool job, two awesome kiddos (and a daughter who absolutely LOVES Tiny Fruits) and, well, we’d go to a Selena Gomez concert with him any day. Read on, people. Read on…

Tell us about your job in 2 sentences or less:
My main responsibility is to oversee all of the technical production for the live boxing telecasts. I seek, research, pitch and help implement different ways to cover the sport of boxing in the most unique and captivating manner for HBO. It’s great as long as I don’t need to get into the ring!

What is your family’s biggest guilty food pleasure?
My daughter and I share the same sweet tooth for gummy candy, jelly beans, licorice, Sour Patch candy, etc. She shouldn’t have it, because of her teeth. I shouldn’t have it for many reasons. But we do.

If you could launch back in time to the days of footed pajamas and robot night lights, which vintage flick would you pop in to your VCR for the ultimate 80’s experience?
Easy. Ferris Bueller. First, because it’s a great movie. Second, because I still think I can pull it off in my 30’s.

What is the best piece of Daddy Advice you’ve dished to your kiddo(s)?
I am trying to teach them that beauty can be found on the inside – not just the outside. My daughter is a gorgeous girl but I want her to also recognize her inner beauty and my son has a terrific spirit and character. I want them to both focus on their internal self.

Finish this sentence: “In case I’m senile, please remind me…”
To move to San Diego.

Last but not least… we have to ask: Between Justin Bieber or Selena Gomez… which musician would you rather go see in concert as a chaperone?
Wow.. that’s a tough one. I’ll go with Selena Gomez. Mainly because it’s troubling that my 5 year old daughter thinks that Justin is “hot”. We’ll stay with Selena for now.
